2023-9-22: Cutting a lake superior agate

This piece has been sitting on my workbench for the better part of a year, staring me down, challenging me, taunting me.  I finally decided to do something about it.  This is the last piece of a landscaping rock that my neighbor brought over.   By the way, you may notice some of these pictures are stills from a video I made -- check out the video of the process on my Instagram page: Here's the link!

Oh and by the way, I've been selected as one of the artists for the First UU Handcraft Bazaar which is on September 30th.  I've been working on my set up and have some pictures below!  Hope to see everyone there!! (you too Dave!)

My target is the bottom left.  You can just see it staring me down.

Born to be a hand model, always a hand model.  Oh - yeah and this is the initial shaping of the rock.

Fast forward to the doming stage.  This thing has more scratches than my vinyl record collection!

Here is it after getting some of those deep scratches out on the 220 hard wheel.

Doing a little smoothing on the 280 grit soft wheel...

Moving along right through the rest of the grits, this is after the 1200 grit, ready for 3k and a polish!

Time for that polish!

Why hello!  The finished piece

But wait there's more - my friend Libby at Raevenjewelry got busy setting a few into silver!  It's like my baby is all grown up now.😍

As I mentioned above, I'll be at the UU Handcraft Bazaar on September 30.  Here's my mock setup.  Hope to see you there!  (you too Dave)

As always, send me a note if you see something you like!
